Valley players ready for football season

The first Flathead Valley High School football kickoff show was held on Monday.

I invited coaches and players from Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Glacier, Whitefish and Flathead to talk about their teams and the season ahead.

While I am excited to call a new season of football, I know the players are just as excited, if not more, for practice to start Friday.

Nach on Sports: What are you looking forward to in the 2017 season?

AE: Looking forward to playing football with all the boys and my Dad.

NOS: What is it like with your dad as head coach?

AE: It’s a great time. We share everything together, all the ups and downs and we’re always talking football.

NOS: What’s the goal this season?

AE: It’s hard to set goals for a season, I try to set them game by game.

NOS: What are the goals this season personally and as a team?

KW: Personally, I want to make it to the All-State team. For the team, we have a great team coming in. I want to go 1-0 every single play. Every single game our goal is going 1-0 and then next week hitting the reset button and going 1-0 the next week.

NOS: What are some of the things you worked on during the offseason?

KW: For me the offseason started the Monday after the Hamilton game. For the past 10 months, (coaches have) been encouraging teammates and myself to be working in the weight room four to five days a week, running when you can.

NOS: What did you do to prepare for the season?

AG: The preparation is pretty thorough, going into spring ball I spent a lot of time working on our preparation for the season. My receivers and I put a lot of work in the offseason.

NOS: As a senior, what’s the goal after the season?

AG: The goal is definitely to move onto the next level. This game is pretty important to me and I’d like to keep going and during the offseason a lot of my offseason work has been going to colleges and going to camps and things like that and I really want to move onto the next level.

NOS: Do you guys feel any pressure considering the run you guys have been on?

CH: I think it just stays the same every year. Our coaches do a great job leading us in that way. It doesn’t always matter about wins and losses, but in reality it does, but the coaches want to make us great men and that is the big picture. So, there really is never that pressure to go that deep (into the playoffs) but I think we as players put it on ourselves more than the coaches do.

NOS: What does it feel like to see the community and Brave family rally around you?

DL: It makes me want to give back actually. I saw a homeless man walking down the street and I had seen him everyday this week multiple times. I saw him and he was walking down the street. I just felt something come over me, so I stopped him and had a talk with him and I asked him if he needed anything, and he told me he had not eaten in a couple of days, and I went and grabbed him some food and brought it back to him.
