The Glacier football team will open its season a little closer to its namesake national park this fall.

The Wolfpack will open its home schedule with Glacier National Park in the background, playing on Aug. 25 at Columbia Falls’ Satterthwaite Field because of a delay in installing the new artificial surface at Legends Stadium.

Glacier will play defending state champion Billings Senior at 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the football season, a rematch of last season’s Class AA state championship game.

Both teams return a host of talent from the Broncs’ 33-21 victory in November and will likely be among the top-ranked teams in the state early in the year, though each will have to replace quarterbacks that moved on to Division I programs.

Admission for the game will be $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Glacier is still optimistic that it will be playing in Kalispell for its second game, slated for Sept. 1 against Great Falls C.M. Russell. Should the Wolfpack need to find new accomodations, they should be able to stay in the area, with Columbia Falls and Whitefish both on the road that weekend.
