Howard A. Stockwell, 92

Howard A. Stockwell, 92, passed away in his home in Kalispell on Aug.13, 2017, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born May 27, 1925, in Kalispell, to Walter and Minnie (Eisenhower) Stockwell. He attended local schools, graduating from Flathead County High School in 1943.

Howard enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in both the Army Signal Corps and European Theatre through 1948.

He then spent 33 years with the Montana Department of Highways engineering department. Howard retired in 1982.

Howard married Betty Jean Wilson in 1952 and they spent 65 wonderful years together. To this union were born daughters Pam and Gail, and son Jeff.

Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, oil painting and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Willard and John.

Howard is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Pam (Glenn) Slater, and Gail (Ed) Obie; son, Jeff (Shelly) Stockwell; sister, Patricia Nelson; grandchildren, Jarrett (Christina) Barcafer, Cory (Kady) Barcafer, Morgan Obie (Byron) Olson and Jake Stockwell; great-grandsons, Cole and Connor Barcafer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We will miss our rock, our anchor, our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Evergreen.

Memorials can be made in Howard’s name to Home Options Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or the Calvary Lutheran Church.
