Whitefish 6-2 in pool play; Libby sweeps 3 matches

FRENCHTOWN — Whitefish posted a 6-2 mark in pool play on Friday at the season-opening Northwestern A versus Southwestern A Tipoff Tournament.

The Bulldogs swept Hamilton and Stevensville while splitting with Corvallis and Dillon.

Volleyball action continues today with more pool play before championship and consolation rounds. Whitefish faces Frenchtown at 10 a.m. and Butte Central at noon.

“I’m really proud of the way they played after coming out of two weeks of practice,” veteran Whitefish coach Jackie Fuller said of her squad.

“I was happy with their production. We have a long ways to go, we have to get better, but maybe it’s a good thing.”

Whitefish played four times, which consisted of eight games to 25 points.

“Cailyn Ross had a great day hitting, blocking,” Fuller said.

“I’m really proud of Lauren Schulz and Becca Catina for being our quarterbacks and running our offense. They played good defense.”

Fuller said junior Marlee Bender, who has no varsity experience, “came in and did a nice job blocking in the middle, got some good swings. Annisa Brown was very consistent offensively and defensively.”

Libby swept Dillon, Frenchtown and Stevensville; Columbia Falls swept Dillon, split with Frenchtown and Butte Central and lost to Hamilton; and Polson split with Frenchtown, but lost to Corvallis, Hamilton and Stevensville.
