Mary was born to Carl and Agnes Stenberg May 31, 1926, in Loring, Montana, and later moved to Creston where she grew up with eight brothers and sisters.

She graduated Flathead County High School in Kalispell in 1945 and moved to Spokane to attend secretarial school where she learned to be a teletype operator. While attending school she worked for a time as a riveter on aircraft for the war effort.

While working in Spokane she met and married Bennick Hyder Bowman. They moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, for a short time and then moved to Kalispell where she was a lifetime resident. They had five children, Ben, Linda, Jeanne, Elaine and Alan. Mary was widowed in 1965 with Bennick’s passing.

Mary later married Oscar Deitrick and they had a son Brian.

Mary is survived by her sons and daughters, Ben and Brenda Bowman, Linda and Mick Bonar, Jeanne Bowman and her husband Robb Hatton, Elaine and Steve Symington, and Brian and Dana Deitrick; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Christian, and sisters Kay, Anna, Agnes, Carol, Laura and Delores.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, brother John, and son Alan.

Mary was a kind, gentle soul loved by her family and everyone who knew her. Mary held the conviction that the Lord is with each and everyone of us.

“Jesus has always been in my heart and he will be where my next journey begins.”

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Glacier Memorial Gardens, with a celebration of life following at Buffalo Hill Terrace, Buffalo Room. Favorite pictures and sentiments of Mary would be appreciated.

The family extends special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Buffalo Hill Terrace for their care and professionalism.
