Alice Melvina 'Sis' Veidt, 88

| December 3, 2017 8:34 PM

Alice Melvina Veidt, affectionately known as “Sis,” 88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Retreat Center in Kalispell.

Alice was born Nov. 24, 1929, to Melvin and Dolly (Bradley) Larson in Lodge Grass, Montana. As the second oldest child, she welcomed and helped care for her younger siblings. In her younger years the family moved to Kalispell where she attended local schools. Upon graduating from the eighth grade, she went to work as a telephone operator at the local phone company and continued working there for many years.

In 1950 she married Donald Lewis Veidt in Kalispell. To this union were born two sons, Donald George and Kenneth Ralph.

Alice enjoyed gardening, bowling, ceramics, camping and fishing with family and friends, and was a longtime member of the Eagles. She was a wonderful cook and baker and hosted many a get-together with family and friends. Her huge platters of Christmas cookies and cinnamon rolls were gratefully received and much appreciated — and truly missed as her health declined the last couple of years.

As a family, she, Don and the boys spent many memorable times on Flathead Valley lakes. Alice helped Don build two recreational cabins on a couple of acres in the Middle Fork of the Flathead River that their sons and families still enjoy to this day. In her later years she helped plant, maintain and harvest a large garden. Her home-canned pickles were “to die for” and will be missed, especially by her grandson, Steven.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; Don, her husband of 63 years; brothers, LeRoy, Leon “Tiny” and Ronnie Larson; sister, Donna Hatlen; a grandson, Richard Veidt; and many other relatives.

She is survived by sons, Donnie and Ken (Janet), and grandson Steven Veidt, all of Kalispell; stepgrandchildren, Richie (Theresa) Vincent of Kalispell, and Stacey Vincent of Encintas, California; sisters, Carol Street, Bunny Miller, Jeanna Root, Sharon Secord and Karen Caldbeck; and a large extended family.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Alice’s family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to view Alice’s guest book, offer condolences and share memories.
