Kalispell resident and Flathead Valley Community College student Angela Boyce has been recognized as one of six recipients of the annual Civic Engagement Scholarship from Montana Campus Compact statewide.

The Montana Campus Compact partners with the chosen student’s institution to award a $1,000 scholarship to students who help better their communities through outstanding community service.

Boyce, a sophomore general studies major with an emphasis in nursing, volunteers primarily as a hospice volunteer, working with patients and providing relief to primary caregivers. Additionally, she apprentices as a doula and midwife, offering services to low-income women.

Boyce’s ultimate goal is to complete a Master’s degree in nursing in order to become a nurse midwife.

“I believe the wellbeing of an individual has a strong ripple effect on the community,” Boyce said.

This year, 39 students across Montana applied for the Civic Engagement Scholarship.

College students of Montana Campus Compact affiliate schools of all ages can apply for the scholarship.

The Montana Campus Compact provides half of the overall scholarship, while the institution matches the other half.

The scholarship will benefit Boyce over the Spring semester of 2018.
