‘Bleed Blue’ assembly

Columbia Falls High School is having a “Bleed Blue” community assembly to celebrate the high school’s successes from 11 a.m. to noon today in the school gym.

The assembly features performances by the Pep Band, Blue Man Drum Line and Comatose Posse.

The public is welcome to attend.

Wellness presentation

Immanuel Lutheran Communities hosts a wellness presentation geared for seniors titled “Heart Health,” from 2-3:30 p.m. today at Buffalo Hill Terrace, 40 Claremont St., in Kalispell. There is no charge. Call 752-9624 for more information.

Birding field trip

The Flathead Audubon Society sponsors a birding field trip from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Bigfork and Swan River area. Learn about winter avian residents and count wintering songbirds at local feeders. Explore the river corridor and surrounding fields in search of trumpeter swans, many duck species, bald eagles and pygmy owls. Families with children and birders of all ages are welcome. Dress warmly, bring binoculars and/or spotting scopes.

Beekeeping workshop

The Montana State University Flathead County Extension office will conduct an Introduction to Beekeeping Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Flathead County Fairgrounds, Country Kitchen building.

Topics include bee biology, a year in the hive, how to order and assemble a hive, bee pests and diseases, and wildlife mitigation. Bees must be ordered in February for shipment in April.

The cost for the class is $30. Lunch is provided. Registration should be made through the MSU Extension office. For more information, call Pat McGlynn, MSU Agriculture Extension agent, 758-5553.

Woodturners demonstration

Glacier Woodturners will give a woodturning demonstration starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kalispell Center Mall.

Elk Foundation banquet

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Big Game banquet starts at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Trade Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds in Kalispell.

Whitefish Review

The Whitefish Review celebrates its 10th year and the release of its 20th issue at a special event Saturday at Casey’s in downtown Whitefish. The evening opens at 6:30 p.m. with live music by cellist and vocalist Lee Zimmerman. Readings start at 7:30 p.m. featuring authors David James Duncan, Chris Dombrowski and Flathead Valley native Katie McGunagle.

A $10 entry donation is suggested to support the nonprofit journal.
