Police make note of license plate theft

A Fifth Avenue East resident called the Kalispell Police Department to report that his license plates allegedly had been stolen off his vehicle sometime overnight.

A man told officers he had received a suspicious call from an unknown number with a 303 area code, in which the caller referred to him by name and allegedly “made generalized sexual comments toward his family.” Officers recommended that the man block the number, and suspected the call was a spam or phishing call.

A caller told police there had been a suspicious man following his daughter after school let out on Second Street West. The suspect allegedly followed the girl while she was walking, and when she noticed him and began running, he ran after her. The girl made it safely to her grandmother’s house nearby, but the concerned father wanted officers to conduct extra patrols in the area.

A driver called police after encountering a large group of kids allegedly standing in the road — possibly playing “chicken” with traffic — on Empire Loop. Officers located the group and counseled them about staying out of the roadway.

A Second Avenue East resident called police because she was afraid a pair of men were “casing” her house. She said the men had twice come knocking at the door claiming to be salesmen, but had no badges and did not identify themselves. She said the second time, the pair allegedly sat outside the house in their vehicle for nearly 30 minutes before coming to the door. She asked officers to do extra patrols in the area.

A caller told police there was a vehicle sitting in a parking lot of a U.S. 2 West business with two suspicious occupants possibly conducting drug deals. Officers were unable to locate the suspects’ vehicle.

Two people allegedly went into a store’s dining area on U.S. 93 South with a dog. When confronted by employees, the pair allegedly said it was a service animal, but had no paperwork or documentation. Officers told the duo to move along, and they did.

A driver called police about a manhole cover that had dropped on Merganser Drive. The caller said one of the cones that had been placed near the road hazard had “slipped,” and was concerned that another driver might hit it. Police advised the Public Works Department of the possible problem.

A manager called the Whitefish Police Department when two men were allegedly fighting in the hallway of a U.S. 93 South motel. The pair allegedly caused some damage to the building, and the manager asked police to trespass the suspects.

The Columbia Falls Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Wishart Road.

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to reports of a motor vehicle fire on U.S. 93 North.
