Police assist with car troubles

| January 22, 2017 8:39 PM

A caller told the Kalispell Police Department that a vehicle was broken down near South Main Street. The caller said the vehicle was blocking traffic, and that nothing on the vehicle was working, including the hazard lights. Before officers could assist, the driver called back to let police know a passer-by stopped and helped push the vehicle out of traffic. The driver was eventually able to “jiggle the battery cable” to get the vehicle back on the road.

A vehicle was reportedly damaged in a parking lot on U.S. 93 North. The vehicle’s owner told police the damage was discovered after coming out of a store.

Someone reported an open garage door on Wind River Drive. Officers contacted the homeowner, who was able to secure the door.

A caller told police a dog was barking on South Woodland Drive. No dog was outside at the time officers responded and no one was at the home. Officers left a notice at the allegedly offending dog owner’s home to make them aware of the complaint.

A caller told police there was a “large chunk of metal sticking up from the railroad tracks” near North Main Street and Market Place Street. The responding officer confirmed there was a problem with the tracks. Cones were put up to alert drivers of the potential hazard, and the railroad was contacted to make a permanent fix.

The Whitefish Police Department spoke with several individuals on East First Street about open containers.
