| January 24, 2017 8:01 PM

Marvin E. Twamley, 90, of Lakeside, died on Jan. 20, 2017.

He was born on March 18, 1926, in Alexandria, South Dakota, to Clifford and Norma Twamley. He grew up in Alexandria and graduated from high school in 1944.

In June 1944 Marv enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After training in California he served in the Pacific during World War II. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, in August 1946, Marv attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.

Marv married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth “Beth” Goode on Dec. 22, 1946. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. To this union four children were born, twins Camille and Amille, and sons David and Timothy. Marv and Beth’s first home was in Vermillion, where he attended college.

In 1968 they moved to Lake McDonald where they were employed by Glacier Park Inc. Marv was the maintenance engineer for both Lake McDonald Lodge and the Village Inn at Apgar. They were the only year round residents at Lake McDonald Lodge. From 1986 to 1989 they managed the Marina Cay Resort in Bigfork. In 1989 they retired to Lakeside.

Marv was always the good Samaritan and helped his neighbors and friends in any way he could. He had the ability to repair or build anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved bird hunting and fishing, especially when Flathead Lake froze so he could go ice fishing.

Family was Marv’s greatest joy. After retirement his guidance and love helped mold his grandchildren in a very special way.

Survivors include daughter, Camille (Fred) Dahlenburg, of Nashville, Tennessee; and son, Tim Twamley (Jan), of Lakeside; five grandchildren, Lisa Whetstone, Darrin and Tory Dahlenburg, Jarrett and Ian Twamley; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Norma Twamley; brother Clinton “Bub,” and sister Gladys Dummer; his beloved son, David; and daughter Amille, who died at birth; and grandsons, Curt Dahlenburg and Barrett Sargent.

Service will held at a later date.
