Dorothy M. Schwartz, 90

| January 28, 2017 8:46 PM

Dorothy passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2017, after a short stay at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

She was born March 18, 1926, in Whitefish to Victor and Winifred Cox Gray.

Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Whitefish High School.

On May 7, 1947, she married Willard H. Schwartz in Whitefish. They were blessed with two children, David and Dan.

Dorothy was an accomplished musician. She could play a variety of instruments. In the early 1920s a traveling salesman came through Whitefish selling pianos. Her folks ordered one for Dorothy’s mother not realizing their little daughter was just as interested. This began her love of music and the piano. That piano followed her through life. She gave her last performance on a piano in early December at the age of 90.

Dorothy was proud of her volunteer service to RSVP, Immanuel Lutheran Corporation and her church. As the musical group The Fiddlin’ Friends, they played for all the local nursing homes and special events for years. Dorothy’s faith was special to her and she lived her faith.

She was preceded in death by her brother Ed Gray, and her two sons David and Dan.

She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Jan Schwartz of Kalispell, and Wanda Schwartz of Saraland, Alabama; nephew, Don, and Elaine Gray of Brady, Montana; nieces, Margie and Vern of Medical Lake, Washington, and Cindy and Charlie Nanna of Whitefish, and all of their children; and family friend Lori Angus.
