Police respond to possible crimes

| July 23, 2017 10:50 PM

A Columbia Avenue resident called the Whitefish Police Department because someone possibly tried to break into his home overnight. The man said he became concerned when he found a screen on one of his windows had been bent on the outside of the house, though it appeared no one had actually entered the home. The man added that some rifles may or may not be missing from his garage. He said the guns weren’t his; a coworker had been storing them in the garage. He didn’t know how long they had been gone or if the owner had picked them up or moved them. He said he would call the owner of the guns to get more information, and call police back if they were, in fact, deemed missing.

An intoxicated pedestrian was reportedly wandering near the railroad tracks in pajamas. He eventually made his way downtown, where officers determined he was OK.

A woman called police for help locating her missing cellphone. She called back a short time later to report that some passers-by had found the phone on the side of the road and were able to return it to her.

Police took several calls regarding a rowdy group of demonstrators on East First Street. The group was allegedly trying to pick fights with passers-by, and it had escalated to threats of violence. Officers dispersed the group and counseled them on the city’s ordinances for holding public demonstrations.
