A man who kicked a police officer in the hands and chest has been sentenced to four years with the Department of Corrections.

Christopher Michael Erickson, 29, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of assault on a peace officer after causing injuries to a Kalispell Police officer on Aug. 25.

Erickson was given credit of 416 days served during his sentencing by Flathead District Court Judge Dan Wilson on Nov. 2.

The incident allegedly started with Erickson being intoxicated and harassing customers at Super 1 Foods in Kalispell, and refusing to leave the store. According to court documents, a loss prevention officer said Erickson fought with him until the officer was able to place Erickson in handcuffs.

Once he was placed under arrest by a Kalispell Police officer, Erickson kicked the patrol car with enough force to partially open the door.

While officers attempted to restrain his legs, Erickson pulled his legs back and kicked the Kalispell Police Officer.

The officer sought treatment at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center for possible tendon damage and a dislocated finger after trying to restrain Erickson’s legs, according to court documents.
