History Book Club to discuss 'Deliverance Mary Fields'

| November 9, 2017 12:50 PM

The History Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. The public is invited.

The group will be discussing “Deliverance Mary Fields” by Miantae Metcalf McConnell.

Mary Fields was an emancipated slave who arrived in Montana in 1885. She came here to care for Mother Mary Amadeus, a sick Catholic Ursuline nun who had befriended Mary earlier. Mary stayed on to help Mother Amadeus at St. Peter’s school and mission near Cascade and eventually moved to Cascade, where she lived for many years. Her life was filled with adventure and hardship, and this historically accurate book makes for interesting reading.

The book is available through the library system. For questions, call Diane at 406-752-0204.
