Film club to screen 'The Contender'

| September 21, 2017 1:32 PM

The Historic Film Club will screen the political drama “The Contender,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.

When the United States President has to pick a new VP, he thinks outside the box and nominates Sen. Laine Hanson of Ohio (Joan Allen). No one doubts her professional qualifications, but the focus quickly turns to her mysterious and potentially sordid personal past, with the investigation spearheaded by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Sheldon Runyon (Gary Oldman).

Oldman, Allen, and Jeff Bridges (who plays President Jackson Evans) all racked up numerous award nominations for their performances.

There is no charge for the film, but donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of acquiring and showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
