Cross country Polson girls first at Whitefish Invite

WHITEFISH — The Polson girls ruled the Whitefish Invitational cross country meet on Tuesday afternoon by finishing 1-2-3 individually along with capturing the team title.

Beatrix Frissell set a fast pace, posting a winning time of 19 minutes, 58.46 seconds. She averaged 6:26 per mile and was the lone girl to break 20 minutes.

Naima Crowl was second, 20:10.75, and Molly Sitter third, 20:34.17.

Polson had a team score of 41. Whitefish, 58, was second and Columbia Falls third, 103.

“We’re happy with that,” Whitefish coach Richard Menicke said. “I’m really pleased with how girls ran. They ran well as a pack.”

Jessica Henson was 10th and Josephine Vardell 11th to lead the WHS girls.

Frenchtown/Alberton had the top two individual and won the team title for boys.

Frenchtown/Alberton had a team score of 50, finishing six points ahead of runner-up Columbia Falls.

Browning, 69, was third.

Brock Rugg, 16:55.66, and Tyler Schmautz, 16:57.88, were the top two individuals

Gabe Knudsen of Columbia Falls, 16:58.65, was third.

Rugg, Schmautz and Knudsen were the only runners to finish under 17 minutes.

Miles Vrentas had the best showing for the Whitefish boys, placing 11th. Bridger Gaertner was 16th.
