C-Falls, Libby softball 2-0 at Frenchtown Tourney

FRENCHTOWN — Libby Loggers and Columbia Falls Wildkats softball went 2-0 on the first day of play at the Frenchtown Invitational on Friday.

The Wildkats defeated Corvallis 11-6 and Loyola Sacred Heart 19-7.

Columbia Falls started with a five-run first inning against Corvallis and sealed it with two runs in the fourth.

Alyssa Blankenship homered and had two RBIs.

Against Loyola, the Wildkats scored nine runs in the third and took control of the game, led by Savvy Ellis’ two homers and four RBIs.

Libby’s seven-run fourth inning helped put Dillon away.

Ten players had RBIs.

It wasn’t close, but Libby scored five runs in the sixth inning to surge ahead of Florence.

Linsey Walker tripled and had two RBIs.

Belgrade nipped Polson, 4-3, erasing the Pirates’ four-run lead with three runs in the fifth inning.

MISSOULA — Flathead split a doubleheader on Thursday, first dropping 20-1 to Missoula Sentinel and then pounding Missoula Big Sky 24-2 later on.

“Kids played hard,” Flathead coach Jack Foster said. “Did a good job. We’re a little banged up right now but the kids went out and battled.”

Against Big Sky, Riley Chouinard doubled, had four RBIs and was 4 for 4 at the plate. Macy Craver tripled and Brianna Morales homered and had seven RBIs.

Flathead (2-10 overall, 2-5 conference), hosts Helena High and Helena Capital at 12 and 2 p.m. today.
