Donald Charles Schultz Sr., 81

Donald Schultz Sr., 81, passed away April 18, 2019, at his home in Kalispell.

Donald was born Feb.16, 1938, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, to Daniel Louis Schultz and Edna Amick. He attended school in South Dakota and enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 where he spent four years on the USS Intrepid. After his term in the Navy, Donald moved to Kalispell where he met the love of his life, Lorraine Wise. They were married and spent 59 wonderful years together. Donald worked for Plum Creek and Stoltz Lumber for several years before venturing out on his own and operating Flathead Cedar Products prior to his retirement. He had a passion for woodworking, sapphire mining, gold panning and fishing and would spend any spare time he had with his family doing those things.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Edna, brother Francis Schultz, brother Robert Schultz, son Raymond Baier, son Larry Baier, daughter Joy Schultz, granddaughter Darcy Baier, granddaughter Jennifer Lanktree, and great-granddaughter Abigail Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Schultz; nine children, Ronald Baier and wife Shirley of Kalispell, Gail Welch and husband Steve of Helena, Gwendy Hartshorn and husband Bert of Bremerton, Washington, Lance Baier and wife Rose of Kalispell, Tami Whitehead and husband Mark of Kalispell, Donald Schultz Jr. of Kalispell, Daniel Schultz and (Tammy) of Kalispell, Todd Schultz and wife Yvonne of Kalispell, and Laurie Schultz of Kalispell; one brother, Jim Schultz, of Kalispell; four sisters, Sharon Ayers of Riverton, Wyoming, Cecelia Thomason and husband Clay of Ironwood, Michigan, Mary Nelson and husband Dennis of Snohomish, Washington, and Carol Oriet and husband Robert of Basin, Montana; 48 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

This beloved, hardworking man is now at rest and enjoying all the things he loved to do with a big smile on his face.

A small gathering of family and close friends honoring our “Hero” will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the family homestead, 580 Batavia Lane in Kalispell.
