Margaret A. Smith, 68

Margaret A. Smith, 68, of Kalispell, was born the seventh of eight children to Edward and Agnes Iona (Egan) Earley on May 27, 1951, in Binghamton, New York. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1969.

Margaret moved to Washington, D.C., and worked at the U.S. Department of Justice for eight years. There she met her future husband, Jonathan B. Smith. They married in Binghamton in 1979 and moved to Kalispell. There she worked in law offices and later on at St. Matthew’s School for many years. Margaret also found joy in quilting and sewing and left behind may beautiful creations.

Margaret’s fullness of joy came with her children Brittany Smith and Daniel Smith, as well as her grandchildren Isabelle and Kathryn.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Jonathan, her children Brittany and Daniel, and her grandchildren Isabelle and Kathryn all of Kalispell; as well as her siblings, Mary McCarthy, Becky Earely, Theresa (Thomas) Tiffany and Judy Kelleher of Binghamton, and sister Sister Katherine Earley CSJ of Albany, New York, Edward (Karen) Earley of Pennsylvania, John (Sue) Earley of Sanford, North Carolina; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Margaret loved her family and those she dealt with. She visited New York to see family many times over the years. Her mother’s birthday seldom passed without her there. She did all she could for others and was beloved by many.

We love you very much Margaret and you will be missed by us all. You were the best wife, mother and grandmother!

A rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. There will be a memorial Mass held for Margaret 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church with placement of Margaret’s urn following service at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Following placement of urn, there will be a reception held at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory, 525 S. Main Street, Kalispell.
