Animal Tracking Day

Flathead Audubon Society hosts an Animal Tracking and Sign Interpretation Day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tracker and wildlife researcher Brian Baxter will lead a group to search for clues and evidence of wildlife in one of the Flathead Valley’s rich riparian areas. The 2 1/2-mile round-trip hike is moderate, with relatively flat terrain and a few steep cut banks.

Soroptimist bag sale

The all-volunteer Soroptimist Thrift Haus, 303 First St. in Whitefish, has its winter bag sale from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Fill a plastic grocery bag for $5.

All proceeds will be donated to area nonprofit organizations with a focus on improving the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

HO gauge trains session

The South Flathead Modular Railroad group has a special operating session for its trains from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway Community Center. The group will be located at the north end of the Mall, entrance C. The group operates HO gauge trains, running both DC and DCC operation systems. Individuals who have locomotives and/or cars they wish to run on the layout are welcome to bring them. There is an opportunity to bring related HO train items for sale or swap.

The public is welcome to watch the trains operate. The group is open to new membership. Contact either Vance Carolin at 755-9412, or Joel Goldberg at 406-837-0580.

Carnival coronation

The coronation of the 2019 Whitefish Winter Carnival’s King Ullr and Queen of the Snows takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

Then head for the Carnival Disco Party at 8 p.m. at the Great Northern Bar. There will be prizes for best costume, so put on your ’60s duds to celebrate the carnival’s Woodstock theme. Admission is $10 plus a carnival button, available at area merchants.

Walburn performs

The first program in the John White Lecture Series features Whitefish-based singer-songwriter David Walburn at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.

Walburn will perform tracks off his album “West for America” about the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Tickets are $6 for museum members and $9 for nonmembers with limited tickets at the door. Tickets for the entire series are $20 for museum members and $30 for the general public. Call 756-8381 for more information.
