Valley Voices Community Choir performs Jan. 28 at Flathead High School.

The Valley Voices Community Choir begins its spring season Monday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. in the choir room of Flathead High School. Everyone who likes to sing is welcome to join.

Allyson Kuechmann has been directing the Valley Voices for 19 years.

“Allyson is one of those rare people who is blessed with amazing musical talent, yet has never lost sight of the fact that community choir is meant to be fun,” choir member David Vale said.

The program is new each season. Songs are not repeated more than once every five years and the music is selected by a committee from the choir.

“We choose what we sing from the music we like to hear,” choir president Sylvie Wood said.

“For this spring the board of directors and the music committee have chosen an eclectic set of songs ranging from classical to patriotic to movies and Broadway,” Kuechmann said. “I’m as excited as I’ve ever been to be directing these songs and this enthusiastic ensemble of singers.”

The choir, composed of roughly 87 members, prides itself on being a community choir, open without audition to everyone who wants to sing.

“I firmly believe that everyone who can speak and hear can also learn to sing,” Kuechmann said. “Over my career as a director, I’ve seen time and again that when you put together a choir of 80 or 90 people who are excited to make music, the results are beautiful.”

If you’d like to be part of the Valley Voices Community Choir, come to the first rehearsal Jan. 28. There is a $45 fee to cover music and other expenses. Anyone who wants to sing but can’t afford the $45 is still welcome to join.
