In the Kalispell Middle School’s production of “Mulan, Jr.” the role of Yao is played by Josh Edelen; Qian Po, Nathan Wilhelm; Ling, Bauer Hollman; and Captain Shang, Ben Moore.

“Mulan, Jr.” is a musical designed for middle-school aged performers and based on the 1998 Disney film “Mulan” and the story “Fa Mulan” by Robert D. San Souci. The all-school cast and crew contains approximately 60-plus students led by teachers Tracy Snipstead and Anne Castren, Rachel Bjork and choreographer Krista Orona.

It is the story of an ancient Chinese girl named Mulan who disguised herself as a man to go to war against the Huns in place of her injured father. She is assisted by a comical dragon as she joins the Wu Zhong camp of soldiers under the command of Capt. Shang.

Mulan is brave and noble but is soon found out to be a girl, which causes more trouble. She and her fellow soldiers come up with an idea to defeat the Huns and they emerge victorious and are honored by the emperor himself. Mulan returns home to her family and all is forgiven.

Many amazing songs are featured in this musical, including “Reflection,” “Written in Stone,” “A Girl Worth Fighting For” and “I’ll Make a Man out of You.”

Kalispell Middle School presents the Disney musical “Mulan, Jr.” today through Saturday, March 7, 8 and 9, in the KMS Cafetorium.

There will be shows at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as a matinee at 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students.
