WHITEFISH — A day that started with sweeping snow off the pitch ended in sunshine and another trip to the Class A state final for the undefeated 14-0 Whitefish Bulldogs boys soccer team.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Whitefish coach John Lacey said.

“We knew we had a strong team this season and fun to get back to that game again.”

Whitefish scored 11 goals and shut out Billings Central at Smith Fields on Saturday.

Sam Menicke scored a hat trick and 11 different players either scored a goal or assisted on a goal.

The Bulldogs will try to defend their title against Laurel next Saturday.

“We’ve known our season was going to be defined by these three games in the playoffs and hopefully finished in that off,” Lacey said.

Laurel beat Frenchtown on Friday to advance to the championship game.

“Laurel is a strong team,” Lacey said. “A strong team physically. Should be good soccer.”

Game time is yet to be announced.

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Lady Bulldogs ended their season with a loss to Billings Central in semifinal play.

“I think the score is very flattering for Billings central and they definitely deserved the 7-0 victory,” Whitefish coach Roland Benedict said. “It came down to two teams that were polar opposites in the final third of the game. We had time on the ball and possessions. When they got chances to score, they did not miss.”

The Bulldogs end the season 9-5.

“I would like to thank my seniors Mary Peterson, Grace Benkleman, Anna Cook, Josephine Brown, and Abigail Shaffer for four years of dedication to a soccer program that competes and constantly strives for excellence,” Benedict added.
