Man wonders about ‘citizen’s arrest’

A man allegedly had questions for Flathead County Sheriff’s Office about making a “citizen’s arrest” on a public official in Kalispell. The man purportedly wanted to know what his rights were for taking such an action with public officials who violate federal or state statutes. He was advised to seek legal counsel and advice from the county attorney in addition to the state and federal attorney general offices. Officers also reportedly discussed some state statues and told him to do further research on local and state laws, advising him, “not to violate any state or local law in his pursuit of action and change,” and “to carefully weigh the value of the intended result against the cost of action and unintended consequence.”

A man with road rage on U.S. 2 in Columbia Falls allegedly followed another vehicle into a parking lot, told the driver he was going to slice his throat and pulled out a knife, which he stabbed and dragged across their window.

Someone calling from Solberg Drive in Kalispell requested a welfare check on a woman who was allegedly sending weird messages about meth, was not able to leave and “if she goes missing to check the basement.”

A section of vinyl fencing on River Place in Kalispell reportedly appeared to have been bashed in by a tire iron. The fence also had weird symbols written all over it.

A man who was supposedly wearing only shorts and no shoes, was seen climbing a hill at the end of Bear Hollow Drive and appeared to be searching for something, which had someone concerned he may be looking for drugs because it was a “known drug drop-off location.” Officers made contact with the man, who was purportedly “just going for a walk after a disturbance.”

Someone allegedly passed a minivan twice on U.S. 93 in Kalispell and told deputies it was driving “way too slow to be on the highway” and was a traffic hazard.

A 2-year-old reportedly tried to cross, or crossed, Helena Flats Road. The person who called in the report to officers allegedly said two teenagers argued with them, saying the “child will follow any dog.” A man and woman reportedly told the teens they had to keep their eyes on the child at all times.

A woman calling from North Fork Road in Columbia Falls allegedly told deputies that while she was gone, her stepchildren came over and choked her daughter, who had a cut on her lip, bruise on her face and scratch on her forehead.

A youth hiking with friends in Kalispell reportedly saw a man dressed in black who was holding a knife and crouched near a trash bag. The man allegedly ran into the woods when he heard dogs barking.

A passerby calling from Airport Road in Kalispell reportedly believed two men were illegally cutting firewood and causing power lines to bounce and rock back and forth.

A woman on Meadow Lake Boulevard allegedly told Columbia Falls Police Department that a man robbed her, taking her purse.

Someone on Bills Lane reportedly saw a mountain lion behind new buildings.

A vehicle was allegedly ransacked on Third Avenue, but it appeared nothing was stolen.
