Kalispell Salvation Army has new leaders

| April 26, 2020 1:00 AM

The Salvation Army Northwest Division this week announced the appointment of Maj. Larry and Capt. Julie Feist to its location in Kalispell.

Maj. Feist was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1991. He served as a single officer in several locations around the country before meeting and marrying his wife in 2003. He served in the Southern California Division while his wife attended the College for Officer Training. Capt. Feist was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 2006.

The Feists served together in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, for eight years; in Oroville, California, for five years; and had a short stint in Longview, Washington, before arriving in Kalispell. In 2011 they both graduated with honors with bachelors’ degrees in leadership and ethics from Nazarene Bible College.

As Salvation Army officers, the Feists expect to be reassigned throughout their careers, according to a press release. The commitment of being an officer includes moving one’s family frequently, and accepting reassignments based on career development and filling the needs of The Salvation Army locations. The assignment in Kalispell is an acknowledgment of their ability to manage a large social services program and growing congregation, the release said.

They began work in Kalispell on April 7.

“When we arrive at a new appointment, we immediately move into and get involved in our community,” Capt. Feist said.

Established in 1895, The Salvation Army in Kalispell provides social services to families in need.
