Computer held hostage by ransomware
Someone allegedly called 911 to report they purchased several prepaid gift cards in an attempt to pay for the release of their computer, which was being held hostage by ransomware.
The person reportedly told Kalispell Police Department they received what turned out to be a scam email and provided passwords and downloaded a program that took over their computer. The person was concerned because no one was reportedly answering phones so they could change their banking information and they were out $1,800.
A transient appeared to be setting up camp when he brought a lot of stuff onto a property.
Police responded to a report that a car was allegedly swerving in both lanes of traffic and off the road before stopping near Treeline Road and U.S. 93.
Someone reportedly told officers a dog tied to a camper on a short leash was whining and it was “the worst they had ever seen.” The person claimed the alleged animal cruelty was ongoing.
Someone alleged a fraudulent Amazon account was created under their name.
A renter reportedly had questions about what her rights were regarding a landlord locking a mailbox and she couldn’t get her mail. She purportedly didn’t want to contact the Post Office and wouldn’t talk to the landlord because he was in the process of evicting her.
Somers Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Bierney Creek Road in Lakeside at 6:19 p.m. Saturday.
