Thomas J. Mann, 77
Thomas J. Mann, age 77, passed away on July 20, 2020.
Tom was born in the Bronx right near Yankee Stadium on Oct. 3, 1942. He was a loyal Yankee fan his whole life.
After high school, Tom enlisted in the Marines where he served in Vietnam at the beginning of the conflict. After his service he worked as a car and light truck mechanic in his own business.
Tom met his wife, Kris, in 1970 and they married in 1972. They were married for 48 years.
In 1989, Tom and Kris pointed their car West. They ended up in Whitefish and fell in love with Montana. Destined to return, they came back in 1993 and purchased what would become Hopalong Ranch. Tom was so proud of the ranch and the many times it was featured on the front pages of the newspapers.
Tom had a deep love and respect for animals. He was never without a dog, and he learned Kris’ love of horses. He particularly loved his horse, Windsong, who lived to be 30 years old. He loved to watch the wild life from his deck. Deer, elk and moose grazing on the lawn was a sight he never tired of.
He also loved other sports, and after being asked if he wanted to learn how to play pickleball, he became an addict. He played as often as he could, and he made a wide circle of very dear friends in the different groups.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Kristine; his sister-in-law, Sandra O’Connor of New Jersey; nephew Dan O’Connor of Maryland; and nieces Katy Manning and Lynn O’Connor, both of New Jersey. He also leaves two great-nephews and one great-niece, and his dog Cassidy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Flathead County Animal Shelter, which Tom supported with donations throughout his life.
