Man arrested in Evergreen incident that involved cologne bottle, not gun
A 52-year-old Kalispell man is being charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following a Sunday evening incident in front of Super 1 Foods in Evergreen, where he was pointing what was thought to be a gun at people and pretending to shoot them, according to a press release from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 8 p.m. Aug. 16, after dispatch advised of the man near the bus stop in front of the grocery store. The man also put the gun to his head and then in his pocket, according to the witness. Deputies blocked off traffic and established a perimeter in an effort to protect the public during the incident. They made contact with the man, later identified as Schawnn P. Leggett, who would not comply with their commands.
Deputies deployed two 12-gauge bean bag rounds, which struck Leggett in the leg and waist area. This allowed deputies to safely take the man into custody without serious injury to anyone involved.
Leggett was detained, and it was determined the gun was a cologne bottle that was shaped and fashioned to look like a silver revolver, the press release stated. Leggett was medically cleared, then booked into Flathead County Jail for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
