Owner retrieves gun left in rental car

An employee at a rental car business found a handgun while cleaning the vehicle and called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to see what needed to be done. An officer collected the gun, called the last person to rent the vehicle and determined he was the owner. The gun was returned to him and everyone went on their way.

A woman called to report a domestic abuse of a friend. The caller said a woman was victimizing his friend, who is a man. The man refused to report it because he feels he would be arrested. His friend was concerned for his welfare because they were back together.

A caller reported hearing “lots of traffic” for the last four hours, including one which sounded like it hit another vehicle. The caller said he heard wheels spinning out and metal hitting metal. A check of the area turned up nothing.

Someone said a person on a motorcycle tried to break into his vehicle, a 2010 Hyundai. There was some damage to the side of the vehicle.

A woman reported a man wearing dark clothing was sleeping in the alley behind her residence. She said he wasn’t one of her neighbors. He was eventually moved along.

A person hiking in the Whitefish area tried to turn the volume down on her phone and accidentally dialed 911.

An extra patrol was ordered because drivers keep blowing through an intersection. The caller was concerned someone could get hurt.

A horse rider also managed to dial 911 by accident.

Someone wanted advice on “squatters.”

A woman wanted to know if Montana recognized the “well armed women” certificate as a concealed carry permit. Her questions were answered.

A caller said the neighbor’s dog continued to kill her chickens. She said she scared the canine away before it wreaked more havoc. She said she isn’t sure where the dog resides. An officer didn’t see the offender during a check, but she was told to take a photo and call if it returns.

A white Ford truck with oversized tires was speeding and swerving on U.S. 93.

A young person said an elderly homeless woman was camping in the park. The woman said she would leave when she catches her cat.

Someone said her grandma threw a flower pot at her. She said grandma got into her Dodge truck and was possibly headed to the courthouse to get an eviction for her and her mom, who is also staying with gram.

A caller said a man was standing on a corner holding a Trump 2020 sign. The caller said he was unable to see oncoming traffic because of the sign. When an officer investigated, it turned out the caller said it was more about the sign and not his vision being blocked. The people with the sign did have permission from the landowner to be there. The officer reported the sign did not block his view of traffic when he left.

A man said his cabin was broken into and a game camerawas stolen. He didn’t want to file a report.
