No. 27240 Opportunity to Comment on Mid-Swan Project The Flathead National Forest, Swan Lake Ranger District, has prepared a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for the Mid-Swan Landscape Restoration and Wildland Urban Interface Project. The project area is located on lands on the Swan Lake Ranger District north of Condon Montana. The Forest Service is proposing these actions to restore and maintain terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity, improve the resilience of forest ecosystems, and reduce the fire behavior in the wildland-urban interface and in areas that have influence on fire behavior within the wildland-urban interface. The draft environmental impact statement and information regarding virtual open houses can be accessed at the project Web site: http://bit.ly/midswan. How to Comment and Timeframe Specific written comments (§218.2) on the proposed project will be accepted for 45 days following publication of the Notice of Availability in the Federal Register that occurred on August 28, 2020. Written comments can be submitted via mail or fax to: Swan Lake Ranger Station in Bigfork or at the Supervisor's Office in Kalispell. The addresses for these offices are 200 Ranger Station Rd, Bigfork, MT 59911 and 650 Wolfpack Way, Kalispell, MT 59901, respectively. Both offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding holidays. Electronic comments including attachments can be submitted to comments-northern-flathead-swanlake@usda.govin rich text (.rtf), Word (.doc or .docx), or .pdf formats, with "Mid-Swan" in the subject line. Comments submitted via mail must be postmarked by the end of the comment period. It is the responsibility of persons providing comments to submit them by the close of the comment period. Only those who submit timely and specific written comments will have eligibility (36 CFR 218.5) to file an objection under 36 CFR 218.8. For objection eligibility, each individual or representative from each entity submitting timely and specific written comments must either sign the comment or verify identity upon request. Individuals and organizations wishing to be eligible to object must meet the information requirements in §218.25(a)(3). Names and contact information submitted with comments will become part of the public record and may be released under the Freedom of Information Act.
