Learn how to ‘pocket sketch’ with Zoom classes

| December 31, 2020 12:00 AM

The Hockaday Museum of Art is offering a virtual workshop titled “Pocket Sketching” with artist and instructor Kath Macaulay.

The workshop will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, Feb. 2, 5, 9, 12 and 16.

Learn this valuable art technique for travel journaling, hiking, biking, sauntering, or sitting in a café. Capture your favorite scenes in 25 minutes or less using a water-soluble pen, 4-by-6-inch pad of paper, and small paint set.

This technique is ideal for both the timid beginner to paint fearlessly in public or the advanced artist who wants minimal equipment, total portability, speed, no interruptions and no cleanup.

The cost for five class sessions is $175 for museum members and $190 for non-members.

Class supplies are an additional $45 plus shipping. The instructor will ship supplies to each registrant along with an eight-minute video explaining why each item was picked and how to have them ready for the first session. One to two days before the first class, she will email the link for the Zoom class with instructions.

Each session begins with a 30-minute group chat followed by approximately 1 ½ hours of instruction time. Class sessions will be recorded and available for two weeks, allowing for review or “make-up.”

Visit www.hockadaymuseum.org or call 406-755-5268 to register.
