Brockman enters Flathead County commissioner race

Tony Brockman filed on Monday to join the race for the District 1 Flathead County commissioner seat.

Brockman, a Republican, is seeking to replace Phil Mitchell, who announced earlier this month he will not run for a second term. Currently one other candidate – Elliot Adams, also a Republican – has filed and formally announced their candidacy.

Brockman’s family owns and operates a local masonry contracting business in Kalispell, according to a campaign press release. In 2014, Brockman was appointed to the board of directors of the Flathead County Economic Development Authority.

“As a Flathead County EDA board member, I have been focused on creating opportunities offering strong economic growth returns, job creation and retention, and expanding Flathead County’s tax base,” Brockman said in the press release.

“My work on projects such as Kalispell’s Core and Rail Redevelopment Project, with special emphasis on the new Glacier Rail Park, and historical support for Glacier AERO is proof of the community benefits that can be achieved through public-private partnerships that focus on strategic growth.”

He vows to increase the “accessibility and functionality of the county’s online presence.

“Residents and taxpayers deserve easy and straightforward access to their government and elected officials,” Brockman said.

Brockman was appointed a trustee for the Evergreen Rural Fire District in 2019 and is a member of the citizen advisory board for Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino. He is also on the board of directors for Montana PBS.

Brockman is a graduate of Flathead High School and the University of Montana.
