Blood stem-cell donors sought for Kila boy
Several Be the Match events are being held for blood stem-cell transplant donors for Maverick Bench, the 8-year old son of Logan Bench of Kila, who was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Maverick is now undergoing treatment and has had several transfusions. His only treatment for a cure is with a blood stem-cell transplant.
Donors will be doing their own cheek swabs and Kalispell Regional Medical Center nurses will volunteer at the events, which are being held today and Thursday, June 17 and 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kalispell Wrestling Club, 1896 Airport Road, next to Kalispell Lakers Field in Kalispell. All potential donors ages 18 to 44 are needed. Samples will be sent in for you. All personal protective equipment will be provided.
If you’re unable to attend, a test kit will be mailed to you after you text to join: teammaverick to 61474.
