HAVRE - Elijah Boyd, a junior from Whitefish, placed second at the Frontier Conference men’s cross country championships held Nov. 6, and Glacier’s Joseph Vanden Bos was eighth — both helping Rocky Mountain College win the team title.

Boyd completed a 1-2 finish by the Battlin’ Bears; teammate Jackson Wilson of Box Elder, S.D., was first overall on the 8-kilometer course Prairie Farms Golf Course in 26 minutes, 18.8 seconds. Boyd finished in 26:36.1, and Vanden Bos was at 27:21.3.

The top 10 places in each race on Nov. 6 were automatically All-Frontier.

Rocky had 40 points to 45 for Carroll College and 83 for MSU-Northern. Five full teams competed.

Joe Lamb, a freshman from Columbia Falls, was 24th among the men for UM-Western, which finished fourth. For Rocky, Quinlan Stewart of Polson finished 31st.

Carroll College won the girls’ team title behind Reghan Worley’s first-place finish: She ran 19:07.5 over 5,000 meters. Montana Tech’s Becca Richtman was third — her first loss in the COVID-shortened season — behind UM-Western’s Eireann O’Connor.

Tech had two Flathead Valley freshmen compete: Carlin Manning of Flathead was 22nd and Raychel Hoerner of Columbia Falls was 30th. The Orediggers were fourth out of five teams.

Rocky’s men and Carroll’s women advanced to the NAIA Cross Country Championships April 9, 2021 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It’s the 65th year for the men’s championships and 41st for the women’s.

Any runner that places in the top 15 but is not on the Bears is eligible for the national meets.
