Exhibit showcases Bodily’s 70-years painting career

| October 29, 2020 12:00 AM

The Hockaday Museum of Art has often supported artists early in their careers. Fifty years after first exhibiting Flathead Valley artist Sheryl Bodily's work in 1970, the museum will present a retrospective of Bodily's prolific 70-year painting career. The exhibit will be on display Nov. 5 through Feb. 13. Early drawings and paintings depict traditional Western landscapes, while recent works transform the Montana landscape into expressive, gestural abstractions.

Bodily has shown throughout the country and his works are in many private and museum collections, including the Hockaday.

Titled “I Ventured Into the Dream: A Sheryl Bodily Retrospective,” an opening reception for this exhibit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 19. The event is free for members and $10 for nonmembers. Due to COVID-19, there will be capacity limitations for this opening. If the museum exceeds capacity, it will transition to timed entries.
