Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead recently completed a project at Herron Park.

According to information from the group, they built their first horse mounting block at the park to help riders of all ages “be a little more horse friendly and horseman safe.”

Bonnie Streeter came up with the idea and kept after the group to build it while chairman Jim Thramer provided leadership.

The design for the block came from the Show-Me Missouri chapter of Back Country Horsemen.

The club also worked with Flathead Parks and Recreation to get the job done.

Prior to their August general meeting, a number of members and supporters gathered to assemble the U.S. Forest Service approved horse mounting block.

The club said it plans on building more mounting blocks at several back country trailheads to support safety for fellow horse users.

Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead donated the labor and materials for this prototype at Herron Park.

The group meets the second Tuesday of every month. Guests and members are welcome.
