| September 23, 2020 12:00 AM

Carl Alvin Wurst, 91, passed away on Sept. 16, 2020, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

He was born on July 31, 1929, in Kalispell to Karl and Gertrude (Wagner) Wurst. Because his mother died soon after of complication of childbirth, Carl was primarily raised by his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Florence Wagner, on their farm east of Kalispell. He enjoyed a happy childhood, attending Lake Blaine School until the family moved into Kalispell where he attended Flathead County High School and graduated in 1948.

Carl worked for the Kalispell Grocery and on the construction of the Hungry Horse Dam before beginning a 30-year career with Anaconda Aluminum Company in Columbia Falls.

On January 8, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Lampman. They made their home in Kalispell, where their two daughters and one son were born. Carl had fond memories of his childhood experiences living on a farm and never lost the influence of that early life. In his younger years, he enjoyed many different activities with family members and friends. In his later years, he continued to live independently and meticulously cared for his home, yard and vegetable garden into his late 80s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his wife Helen in February of 1999.

He is survived by his two daughters, Carla (Richard) Holman of Kalispell, and Beth Tkachyk of Somers, and son Chris Wurst of Kalispell; five grandchildren, Ryan (Billie) Roberts, Brandon Roberts, Brittney (Jesse) Johnson, Andrea (Shailesh) Agarwal and Ben Holman; eight great-grandchildren; and two great- great-great-grandchildren; cousin and other extended family.

Per Carl’s wishes there will be no formal funeral. He will be laid to rest at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
