Gordon W. Helland, 90

Gordon W. Helland died Sept. 22, 2020.

He was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Binford, North Dakota, to Hjammer and Julia Helland. After graduating high school, he taught school for a short time in Hannaford, North Dakota, before joining the service in February 1951. He served in Korea until February 1953.

After being discharged from the service Gordy went and helped on the family farm in Hannaford, then moved to Fargo, North Dakota, for a short time and drove taxi. In 1955 he moved to Minneapolis and went to school to become an electrician. Following school he worked for R & O Elevator in Minneapolis, until July 1966 when he moved to Kalispell and worked for Valley TV & Radio.

After leaving TV repair he married Nancy Harding on March 12, 1976. Gordy went into painting with a friend, later becoming his own boss, and painting with his wife Nancy until he retired.

He was the last surviving sibling of seven children.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Johnathan; grandchildren, Jacob Jones and Tanner Helland, Kimberly and Casey; great-grandchild, Tallis Buck; his parents, Hjammer and Julia Helland; and siblings, Gladys, Irene, Susie, Mert, Howard and Art.

Gordy is survived by his wife, Nancy; and his kids, Kent, Sandy, Shirley and Connie; grandkids, Amy, Tonya, Richie, Jessie, Johnathan, Jolene, Candace, Dustin, Nathaniel, Jessa and Lloyd; great-grandkids, Harley, Athena, Ruby, Rhiannon, Andrew, Alex, Esmerelda, Jessa, Lloyd, Hudson, Carter and Ryan; sister-in-law, Anita (Roger) Hodge; brother-in-law, Roy Harding; nephews, Tommy, Ralph and Rodney; and several other nieces and nephews.

Gordy will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at the Kalispell Eagles.
