WTC presents final Black Curtain show of the season

| April 29, 2021 12:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents the last show of its 2020-2021 season with the wistful and off-beat comedy, “Things Being What They Are,” May 8 and 9. Patrons can either view the show at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish with limited, socially-distant seating at 7:30 p.m. (doors open 7 p.m.); or online in a pre-recorded version of the play anytime May 8 and 9.

Bill moves into his new condo, anxiously waiting for his unfaithful wife and his furniture, when his nosy neighbor Jack appears at the door looking for some beer and sympathy. At first Jack appears to be intrusive, needy and boorish, but gradually Bill's perception of his new friend deepens. While Bill learns how Jack has managed to lose his wife's trust and his children's love, he also discovers that Jack is wrestling with challenging circumstances.

Charming and moving, “Things Being What They Are” follows an unlikely bond between two regular guys as they debate the meaning of love, loss, masculinity, and what brings people together and drive them apart.

“Author Wendy MacLeod has said this about her play: ‘When we meet people we tend to categorize them, to judge them, to draw them in broad strokes,’” director Gil Jordan said. “‘But what if, instead of judging them, we judged our own ability to perceive them?’” “MacLeod's take on male interaction is both light-hearted and deeply revealing,” Jordan added.

Cast members include Tony Nelson and Stuart Green.

As a Black Curtain production there is minimal staging, no set or props, and actors may reference their scripts.
