Marvin MacDonald Halvorson, 88

| August 20, 2021 12:00 AM

Marvin passed away Aug. 7, 2021, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Hewston.

Marvin spent his formidable years in Northern California where he met and married his beloved Barbara. Upon his completion of service and honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Marv picked up a hammer and tool belt, and spent the next 60-plus years building. Upon retirement from the Carpenters Union in 1980, Marv and Barbara scouted all over the west looking for the ideal spot to retire. And Bigfork was it! Over the next 40 years Marv took a lot of pride in the projects he was a part of in the Flathead Valley. It was difficult to take a ride anywhere without Marv pointing out some aspect or history of a building or project he had some involvement in. In addition to closely following his grandkids throughout their high school sports careers, Marv also loved seeing and catching up with old friends at the local Bigfork watering holes.

Marvin is survived by his son, Ken Halvorson (Denise), his daughter Karen Cacciari (Steve), his grandchildren, Aaron Vogel (Marissa), Avery Bussiere (Garrett) and Matthew Halvorson (Julianne), and numerous great-grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by his seven siblings. Barbara Donnelly, Eugene Halvorson (Ethel), Dorothy Pugh, Kathryn Kuhn, Jeanette Hogue, Mike Halvorson (Kathy) and Philip Halvorson.

All Marv’s friends are cordially invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Bigfork VFW from 1 to 4 p.m.
