John Meyer

| December 15, 2021 12:00 AM

John Meyer was born in 1933 in Kent, Ohio, to Grace and Russell Meyer and died on Dec. 8, 2021. After graduating from high school there he joined the Navy and served as a radarman on the USS Robert A. Owens. He returned to Kent after his discharge before moving to Los Angeles and beginning work at Crocker Bank where he met his future wife, Beverly Clark. He was transferred to the San Francisco area with his wife and two children, with a third arriving soon after.

He loved to hunt and fish, so the family moved to Montana in 1971, settling in Columbia Falls and living on Highway 2 for over 40 years. He worked on the Alaska pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, in Saudi Arabia, Israel, and finally as a caretaker for property in California. Throughout his life, he was a man who did things his own way, sometimes to the amusement and consternation of his family.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, children Michael of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Carla (Mark) Hillman of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and São Paulo, Brazil, Gregory of Issaquah, Washington, Sharon (Jason) McDonald of Havre, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at Darlington Cremation and Burial Services.
