Smyley goes for 28, Whitefish girls take over 2nd

RONAN — Gracie Smyley scored 28 points and Whitefish built a huge first-half lead on the way a big 51-29 Northwestern A road girls’ basketball win over Ronan Tuesday.

Jadi Walburn added seven for the Bulldogs (8-3 overall, 4-2 in league), who led 31-16 at the half and moved into second place in the standings.

Ari Burke led Ronan (7-5, 4-3) with eight points.

BIGFORK — Columbia Falls fought off a late challenge from District 7-B Bigfork to stay unbeaten.

The Northwestern A Wildkats (13-0) were led by Maddie Robison and Hannah Schweikert with 15 points each. Emma Berreth dropped in 16 points for the Valkyries (8-4).

LIBBY — The Eureka Lady Lions will bring home the trophy for the Battle of the Kootenai after defeating the Libby Lady Loggers 60-22 on Tuesday.

The Loggers had won the trophy the last four years.

Michael Shea paced the District 7-B Lions (8-5 overall) with 13 points. Kyla Bohne added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

For Northwestern A Libby (2-9), Taylor Munro scored seven points and Olivia Gilliam-Smith had four.
