Brave Brawlers pin losses on Eagles, Spartans

Logan Stansberry and Timber Richberg each racked up a pair of pins Friday as Flathead swept a pair of wrestling duals by identical 60-9 scores.

In the first dual, the highlight match was at 160 between Flathead’s Noah Poe-Hatten and Hunter Meinzen of Big Sky. A four-point fireman’s carry helped Meinzen score a 6-2 decision.

“Noah wrestled really well against a two-time state champion and Oregon State signee,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

Poe-Hatten bounced back to score a pin against Sentinel.

Stansberry’s pins came at 120; Richberg wrestles at 285. Ryan Nelson also won two contested matches for the Brave Brawlers (3-0) at 182, as did Chase Youso at 170. Freshman twins Gunnar and Anders Thompson both beat ranked opponents against Sentinel.

“Chase Youso is really putting together a great season,” Thompson said. “Chase is just so good at the chess game of the sport.

“Ryan Nelson blew out his lungs in the first match (a 10-3 decision) and put in a great performance in his match versus Sentinel (a pin).

The Brave Brawlers won 11 of 13 weight classes in each dual, including five forfeit victories.

Flathead’s next scheduled dual is Friday at Missoula Hellgate.

“I’m really impressed with our conditioning this early in the season,” Thompson said. “Davin Naldret is going to be a force at 103.”

The Braves Brawlers (3-0) next head to Butte for duals with the Bulldogs and Missoula Hellgate Knights on Jan. 16.
