Bravettes put away Big Sky in fourth for first win of season

MISSOULA — Clare Converse scored 16 points and the Flathead Bravettes shook off some poor free throw shooting to down Missoula Big Sky 47-40 in Western AA girls’ basketball Saturday.

Converse scored all of her points in the first three periods, before her teammates put the Eagles away in the fourth. This was despite a 9-for-36 performance at the line for Flathead (1-1), including 3 of 15 in the fourth quarter.

Kuyra Siegel hit a basket and a 3-pointer in the final eight minutes for five of her nine points; Akilah Kubi scored four points in the frame and ended with 7.

Avari Batt scored 14 for Big Sky (0-2), which got just four points from Corbyn Sandau before she fouled out.

MISSOULA - An eight-point first half doomed the Glacier Wolfpack Saturday afternoon, in a 47-34 loss at Missoula Sentinel in Western AA girls’ basketball action.

Ellie Keller scored 12 points to lead Glacier (1-1), which played a strong second half. Emma Anderson chipped in with nine points.

“It’s hard to win a game when you don’t get off the bus and score eight points in the first half,” Glacier coach Amanda Cram said. “However, I’m happy with how we battled back in the second half to come within eight.

“The Pack has a lot of work to do but we are not afraid of the challenge.”

Challis Westwater scored a game-high 16 for the Spartans (2-0).

Missoula Sentinel’s T.J. Rausch scored all of his seven points in the fourth quarter to help the Spartans close out a 61-52 Western AA boys’ basketball win at Glacier Saturday.

Tony Frohlich-Fehr scored 16 points and Alex Germer added 13 points for the Spartans (2-0). Six of Germer’s points came in the final frame: He, Frohlich-Fehr and Hayden Kolb all hit threes and Sentinel surged back from a 44-42 deficit.

Weston Price scored a game-high 20 for the Wolfpack (0-2), and he and Connor Sullivan each hit three 3-pointers. Jaxson Olsen checked in with 11 points for Glacier.
