KALICO Center presents ‘Origin Stories’ exhibit

| January 28, 2021 12:00 AM

“Origin Stories,” an exhibit of contemporary Native-American artwork created by Missoula and Flathead Reservation artist, Monica Gilles-BringsYellow, will be on display at KALICO Art Center Feb. 6 through April 30.

Storytelling and the telling of creation stories, in particular, have ancient traditions in Native American societies. The practice of storytelling was used to explain the realities of existence and the structures that created our cultures.

The artwork in “Origin Stories” aims to continue that tradition by presenting a platform to discuss the effects historical events have had on Native people and to bring to light histories that are often unknown, concealed, or disregarded by broader American society.

“Origin Stories” is an example of how Native American resilience and influence has impacted the culture we live in today.

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6, in 20-minute increments. To attend, one must make a reservation. Call 406-471-2832 or visit www.kalicoartcenter.com.
