John Alan Ulrich, 91

John Alan Ulrich passed away July 18, 2021, in Kalispell, at the age of 91. He was born March 11, 1930, to John C. Ulrich and Arveta Pierce Ulrich.

He married Joan M. Wieder on Aug. 29, 1954. He is survived by four children Janet Ulrich of Kalispell, Jeanne and (Hiram) Griffin of Nashville, Georgia, Joyce and (Vern) Schild of Rozet, Wyoming, and Judy and (Ed) Holthouse of Kalispell, 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a 1954 graduate of West Virginia University and served in the Army from September 1950 to July 1952, completing his military tour in Germany.

He had a long career in the forest industry in central Idaho and Montana. He worked for the Forest Service over 20 years and then FH Stoltze Land and Lumber until his retirement in 1986.

He was an active member of the United Methodist Church where he was on various committees such as building and maintenance, Men's Group, Personnel and chairman of the trustees.

He was a member of the Montana Tree Farm program since 1970, had earned his 50-year designation and received the Montana Tree Farmer of the Year Award in 1998. He had a lifelong love for the "Ranch"; logging, thinning, cutting boughs, Christmas trees and firewood up until his passing.

After his retirement, he found great joy in spending endless hours at the cabin that he enjoyed with family and friends.

John had a work ethic above and beyond most people. He was generous to a fault and active in his communities up until his death.

He was preceded in death by his father John Clark Ulrich, and his mother Arveta Pierce Grimes.

Services will be held July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Epworth United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow at the home of Ed and Judy Holthouse, 936 Patrick Creek.

Memorials can be given to the Epworth United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Kalispell.
