Laurel and Hardy classic screened at History Museum

The Northwest Montana History Museum’s next Movie Night at the Museum begins at 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, with the 1937 Laurel and Hardy classic “Way Out West.”

Upstanding citizens Stan (Stan Laurel) and Ollie (Oliver Hardy) have been entrusted to deliver the deed to a lucrative gold mine to a woman named Mary, the daughter of a deceased prospector — typical plot for a rootin’ tootin’ Western. But if you think the plan proceeds without a hitch, you haven’t seen many Laurel and Hardy pictures.

Over the course of three decades, from 1921 to 1951, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy made 106 films together. These films range from shorts to full-length features and are notable for beginning in the "silent" era of film before transitioning to music and sound effects, finally becoming "talkies" beginning in 1929.

Health safety precautions have been taken at the museum and all public fixtures are repeatedly sanitized on a daily basis.

There is no charge for the film. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
