BUTTE (AP) — A 4-year-old Montana boy was attacked and killed by two dogs at his grandparents' house earlier this month, Jefferson County officials said Wednesday.

Elliott Sherwin died in the attack on May 9 west of the town of Whitehall, Sheriff Craig Doolittle told The Montana Standard.

The dogs, believed to be Rottweilers, have been euthanized, he said.

The specifics of what happened and whether the dogs had ever been aggressive was still under investigation, the sheriff said.

Deputy County Attorney Andrew Paul declined to comment on the ongoing investigation and said no charges have been filed.
