With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

This production calls for a medium-sized cast and costs nothing to audition. There is a $50 fee to participate in the production if cast in the show. Prepare a 30-second monologue or selection from another play or book, and plan to learn and sing something. If you don’t have experience or can’t find something to prepare, materials will be provided. Tentative rehearsal schedules will be given at the auditions. Performances will be held Dec. 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19.

FHS Theatre stages musical of monsters and mayhem

Myths and monsters take the stage in the Flathead High School Theatre Department’s action-packed theatrical adventure, “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” Nov. 3, 5 & 6 at 6:27 p.m. in the school’s David M. Hashley Theatre. There will also be a special matinee performance on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.

As a son of Poseidon, Percy Jackson is just a half mortal, half god … who has newly discovered powers he can't control, monsters on his trail, and is on a quest to find Zeus' lightning bolt to prevent a war between the Greek gods.

This dynamic, family-friendly musical is based on the bestselling adventure book, “The Lightning Thief” written by Rick Riordan and features a thrilling original rock score and lyrics by Rob Rokicki and script by Joe Tracz.

The musical begins as Percy is led to Camp Half Blood, a haven for other kids like him, where he meets his new friends, Annabeth Chase, a fellow half-blood, and magical satyr guardian, Grover. When Zeus, the god of the sky, accuses Percy of stealing his magical lightning bolt, Percy is tasked with finding the bolt and clearing his name. To succeed, he must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, and come to terms with the father who abandoned him.

“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” offers up many lessons including personal identity and the importance of friendship and belonging. Director Liz Sykora said. “It also shows the audience that disabilities can actually represent great strengths and that family dynamics and relationships are complicated.”
